Governor to Release One-time Money to Help Future Dental Students

by Billy Tarpley on June 6, 2013

Governor Mike Beebe announced on June 5 that he will asked the legislature to release $1.1 million from his rainy day fund to pay the first year of costs for all dental students and others enrolled in the Arkansas Health Education Grant Program. His press release below makes  it clear that his funding, which requires legislative approval, will only  cover the first year of costs. The legislature will be asked by ASDA and
other professional associations to fully fund the program when they meet during the fiscal session beginning in January 2014.

This will come as welcome news to many Arkansans who have already accepted positions in the various regional dental schools who contract with the Southern Regional Education Board.
