OBITUARY: Dr. Bob Myer, El Dorado, member of ASDA for 57 years

Robert E. “Bob” Myer, D.D.S., age 84, of El Dorado, passed away August 8, 2010. He was born January 31, 1926 in McGehee, Arkansas to Thelma and Bryan W. Myer. He attended public schools and graduated from McGehee High School in l944. After graduation, Bob volunteer for and entered the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in l946. He attended the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville and graduated from the University of Arkansas Monticello in l949. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, and was a trumpet player in the Razorback Marching Band. He was accepted to the Kansas City Western Dental College in l949 and graduated with a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) in l953. Upon graduation he moved to El Dorado to begin practicing dentistry. He was a practicing Dentist for 42 years in El Dorado and enjoyed his many patients and their families. He served as President of the Southwestern Dental District and El Dorado Dental Association. In 2003 he was recognized for fifty years as a member of the Arkansas State Dental Association. Bob was active in the Lions Club and served as President.

He was a Presbyterian and member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where he sang tenor in the choir for 56 years, served as an elder, deacon and Sunday school teacher. Bob played the trumpet for most of his life in many bands, most recently in the band Young at Heart.

Bob married Margaret Ann Speer of El Dorado on December 18, 1954. They have one daughter, Mimi Margaret Myer Hurst.

Bob was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He will be remembered for his easy manner, good humor and love of people.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bryan W. Myer and his brother, Bryan W. Myer, Jr, D.D.S. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Speer Myer; daughter Mimi Myer Hurst and her husband, Joseph Barber Hurst, Jr and his two grandchildren: Joseph Barber “Hayden” Hurst III and Margaret Myer “Maggie” Hurst.

The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to the staff of Life Touch Hospice for the special care and love they showed him and his wife during his last days.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 11 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Young’s.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 12, at First Presbyterian Church. A celebration gathering will follow the memorial service in Fellowship Hall at the Church. A private family burial will be held on Thursday, August 12 at Arlington cemetery, El Dorado.
