Dental Public Health Mismanagement Alleged

The Officers and Executive Council of the ASDA today authorized the release of a letter addressed to Governor Asa Hutchinson asking him to act on behalf of the state’s dentists to lift the “ill-conceived, badly implemented, and illegal restrictions” invoked by the Arkansas Department of Health, which includes the Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners.

The letter, which was authored by ASDA attorney Jenny Holt Teeter, quickly asserts that “our members’ dedication to the highest principles of their profession has earned Arkansas dentists a well-deserved reputation for advancing the profession, protecting individual patient safety, and safeguarding public health.”  The letter then goes on to outline specific weaknesses in the guidelines, and referenced that the requirements forced upon Arkansas dentists were disproportionate to those of other state health care professionals in the state and dentists in surrounding areas.
