EL DORADO – Union County is not only the home of the El Dorado Promise, which offers college scholarships to graduates of El Dorado High School, it is now home to one of the few public scholarships in the U.S. available for dental students.
An article in the June 4 edition of El Dorado News-Times stated that the Union County Community Foundation is now accepting applications for the Sarah A. Norris Scholarship. Any student who is a graduate of a Union County high school and is currently attending dental school or has been accepted to dental school is eligible for the scholarship. The UCCF will provide more than one dental scholarship, and the selection of recipients will be based on academic merit and financial need. Applications by be obtained by sending an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The scholarship is named for the late Sarah A. Norris, who left her estate to the foundation in 2010. The Norris scholarship has provided other types of scholarships to area students in the past, but the UCCF board has made the decision to use the funds for dental tuition for area high school graduates at least for the immediate future.
