Statement from ADA:
“As reported last month in the Leadership Update, the Pew Center on the States will tonight (12:01 AM Eastern time, January 8) release a report card that grades states on the prevalence of sealant programs in schools. “Falling Short: Most States Lag on Dental Sealants,” finds that roughly two-thirds of all states do not have sealant programs in a majority of “high-need” schools. It criticizes regulations in several states that require that a dentist examine a child prior to a hygienist placing sealants, saying that they make sealant programs less cost-effective and ignore “the evidence showing this prerequisite is unnecessary.”
