President Bob Mason inducted into Arkansas Officials Hall of Fame

ASDA President Bob Mason was inducted into the Arkansas Officials Association/Arkansas High School Coaches’ Association Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the Hot Springs Convention Center on July 16.

The biographical information about Dr. Mason below was provided in the official ceremony program:

Bob Mason is a 1971 graduate of the Fort Smith Public School System.  He attended Harding College where he played NAIA football and was a member of the 1972 Harding Bison team, which finished 10-1, won the AIC Championship, the Cowboy Bowl in Lawton, OK and finished the year ranked 6th nationally in the NAIA.

 Drafted for military service and not the NFL at the end of the 1972 season, Bob entered the United States Marine Corps and served two years during the Vietnam Conflict.  He returned to Harding College in 1975 and graduated in 1977.  Bob attended Washington University School of Dental Medicine and graduated in 1981 with a Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree.  Dr. Mason returned to Arkansas to establish a dental practice and resume his sports officiating.

 Bob’s officiating career began during college doing intramural basketball and eventually joining the Arkansas Officials Association in 1976 and working two years.  While attending dental school, he officiated basketball in the Saint Louis area.  Returning to Fort Smith in 1981, he officiated basketball until called to serve during Operation Desert Storm in 1990.  His football officiating began in 1982 and continued until his on the field retirement in 2006.  At this time he became the supervisor of officials with game assignment responsibilities for the 7A-West Conference, a responsibility held through the 2009 season.  During his career, Bob officiated over 650 football games including 38 playoff and 7 state championships games.

 Bob is a Colonel in the Arkansas Army National Guard and currently serves as the State Surgeon for the Arkansas National Guard.  He has held various positions during his career and received multiple awards and decorations.  Bob is a 2005 graduate of the US Army War College and served overseas deployments during Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

 Active in organized dentistry, Bob has served in various positions in the local, district, and state associations.  He is currently the President of the Arkansas State Dental Association.

 Bob’s wife, Regina is the Executive Director of the St. Edward Mercy Foundation.  They have three children, Jared, Amy, Luke, and two grand-children, Deacon and Reed Stinson.
