In response to questions about dental workforce and the possible expansion of student positions at the University of Tennessee, ASDA is making available a report entitled, “The Need for Dental Education in Arkansas” that was published in 2008 by the Joint Interim Committee on Public Health, Welfare and Labor of the Arkansas General Assembly.
This study was produced as a result of Interim Study Proposal 2007-173, and it is viewed by the legislature as a credible document that foretells a dental workforce shortage in the next 10 years. The document also provided significant data that led to the creation of the Arkansas Center for Dental Studies at UAMS. The center has not been built, but has received a $1 million allocation for future construction and operation.
The ASDA Executive Council will soon consider a proposal to increase the number of Arkansas student positions at UT by ten per year, as well as a legislative proposal to make additional funding available for out-of-state tuition and loan programs.
